Estudiar la identidad creole en el Palo de Mayo es una forma de resistencia. Por muchos años los habitantes del Caribe nicaragüense se han sentido más caribeños que nicaragüenses gracias a la exclusión y aislamiento. Que el Palo de Mayo suene en el Pacífico y se dance podría considerarse un paso a la inclusión social del país, sin embargo, esta inclusión no es absoluta ya que desconocemos el origen y el significado cultural para los creoles. Este trabajo, a parte de darnos perspectiva sobre el Palo de Mayo y el rol que juega como representante de la cultura creole, también nos da lugar a crear conversación sobre temas muy familiares como el racismo, la exotización, la promoción turística inconsciente y temas de identidad cultural.
REPRESENTATION OF NICARAGUAN CREOLE IDENTITY IN PALO DE MAYO
Studying the Creole identity within the context of Palo de Mayo represents a form of resistance. For many years, the inhabitants of Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast have felt more connected to the Caribbean culture than to their Nicaraguan nationality due to their exclusion and isolation. While the sound of Palo de Mayo in the Pacific and its dance represents a step towards the social inclusion of the country, this inclusion is not complete as the origin and cultural significance of the festival to the Creole people remain unknown. This study offers a unique perspective on Palo de Mayo and its role as a representative of Creole culture. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for us to engage in conversations around crucial issues such as racism, exoticization, unconscious tourism promotion, and cultural identity.
